Yorkshire Veterans Athletics Association

12th March 2024

A new set of races for Striders to explore in Yorkshire

As a club we are always looking to offer our members new opportunities and after a recent request from a club member we are pleased to offer our members (who are over the age of 33) the opportunity to participate in the Yorkshire Veterans Athletics Association (YVAA) series of events after recently becoming an affiliated club.

The YVAA promotes athletic events for over-35-year-olds in road, multi-terrain, cross country and fell events. There are Championship races which are one off races which are usually part of a regular race (such as the Halifax 10k) and there is a Grand Prix series of up to 10 multi-terrain races which are approximately 10K which are organised by one of the YVAA affiliated clubs across the Yorkshire region.

The Grand Prix races are also open to runners who are 33 or 34 who can run as guests but aren’t eligible for prizes on the day or the overall series prizes.

The events offer a vast number of new venues for Striders to participate at against our more local and usual calendar of events. These races frequently have over 200 runners, and are a great social as well as competitive outing, with refreshments and a prize-giving following each race and an awards evening at the end of the year.

So where and when are these events we hear you ask…..

Grand Prix Series

The GP series is spread throughout the year, with the first event taking place on 28th April and the final race in late October / early November on a date TBC.

Note: Race 4 clashes with the Thirsk HDSRL event and Race 5 clashes with the Harrogate 10K (Club Champ event).

Eligible athletes can register for the series and enter races online. There is no entry on the day unless you have a race entry voucher you’ve won at a previous race. For 2024, the races will be chip timed by EvenSplits. Entry will cost £10 for your first race, which covers the cost of your race number with timing chip, then £6.75 for subsequent races, or £6 if you enter additional races when you register. Registration without entering a race is charged at £4, and your first race will then be £6.75.

You will be issued with a new number when you attend your first race of the series. This number should be kept and worn on the front of your vest for all subsequent races in the current series. This number is for Grand Prix races only; don’t use it for Championship races as you will use the individuals event bib for them events! Please look after your number between races, as damaged timing chips occasionally aren’t read by timing mats, and there’s a cost to replace them.

You must also wear an age category label (showing e.g. F35, or M50), on the back of your vest. These can be obtained from race HQ on the day of the event. Non-scorers should not wear an age category label. Please note that club vests must be worn!

2024 Road Championship Events

The championships are hosted at open races. To enter, athletes who are affiliated to YVAA (either via an affiliated club, or individually) just need to enter the race as normal. The race organisers will then filter the full results to produce YVAA results containing only affiliated athletes.
