Club Championship 2024 – Event 3 – Peco Round 5 @ Roundhay Park – report and results

25th February 2024

Round 3 of the Club Champs saw a trip to Roundhay Park in North Leeds, for Round 5 of the PECO Cross Country. The mud may have scared some away but we had 18 intrepid Striders completing the race. At least the weather on the day was dry and still. There have now been 54 people who have run at least one of the first 3 events of the year. 5 Striders made this their first event of the 2024 Club Champs, including 2 category winners, but to find out who you will have to carry on reading!

Congratulations to all of you, Cross Country season is now over, outside of the relay race.

Peco Round 5 Results

In the Female Vet’s category Nicola made her 2024 debut with a win and jumps into 4th overall in the standings. Nicola also came 6th in her category at PECO. Kat shows that consistency is key; she is the only one in this category to have completed all 3 events and so tops the rankings. Carla drops down to 2nd with Paula consolidating her third place. Paula also took 6th place in her category.

In the Male Vet’s category Ewan has jumped into 1st in the category, with his first win of the year, he also took 5th place in his category at PECO. Nik also jumped over John into 2nd place overall. Ewan and Nik are the only 2 to have completed all 3 events this year. Steve E also got a top 10 in his category at PECO and now sits 4th in the category. A shout out to Andrew who made his debut in the 2024 club champs and was only 0.005 on age grade (which translates into 2 seconds!) behind Nik at this race. As an aside it is worth acknowledging the end of Andy C’s consecutive Club Champs events as he was tempted away to Poland, by other Striders!

In the Female Senior category we had our 3rd different winner in 3 events as Sima took the win, this was also her first event of the 2024 club champs and she enters the overall standings 4th= with Claire. She also came 4th place in her category at PECO. Sarah takes over the overall lead in the standings, marginally ahead of Olivia, due to her win in event 1. It will be an interesting battle between the 2 of them as their age grade result was very close. Sally completes the top 3 in the overall standings.

In the Male Senior category we also saw our 3rd different winner of the year as Tom W took the W! This also sends him to the top of the standings, with no one completing all 3 events in this category. Tom also came 38th/400 Male at PECO. Craig has jumped up 6 places overall and sits 2nd overall, with his 2nd place at this event. Norm completes the top 3 in the overall standings. The other big riser on the day was Martin, who climbed 5 places to 6th overall, after a 3rd place. We also had a debut in the 2024 Club Champs by Derek and an overall debut by Ben.

The next event is Lightwater Valley 10k on Sunday 17th March.
